About Us
White Lightning Farm, owned since 1997 by Dane Burkhart and Ann Lemon (married), and our son, Amos, is a 13-acre farm in Berks County, PA, specializing in alpaca breeding stock and fiber products. Our barn and Victorian house are dated 1851, and in the 20's housed a "moonshine" still. Hence, our farm's name.
What we do
We breed registered Huacaya and Suri alpacas for excellent fleece characteristics from Peruvian stock with dramatic, rare color. Dane runs the farm and his custom millwork shop. Ann is an advertising art director and teacher. In 2005 we welcomed our fulltime Farm Manager, Myrrh Smith.
We shear our own animals and send fleece to the Alpaca Fiber Co-Op of North America, where it is pooled with other American farms and then carded, spun, and knitted into luxuriously soft and warm products. Alpaca fiber is still one of the rarest natural fibers on Earth. We are proud to be refining the genetic gift of our South American neighbors in Peru, Chile and Bolivia, while also preserving a small part of Pennsylvania’s farm heritage.

We’re members of the Alpaca Owners and Breeder's Association, the MidAtlantic Alpaca Association, and the Pennsylvania Alpaca Owners & Breeder’s Association. We also have animals for sale on AlpacaNation.
